We have returned from our epic RV Adventure 2017 and I look forward to sharing it with you!  We traversed the state of North Carolina from the coast to the mountains and enjoyed some of the most popular sites the state offers.

Route Planning:

To begin planning for this adventure, I hopped on my two favorite planning websites; Mapquest and TripAdvisor.  Between the two, I could locate the places that had the family-friendly sites and attractions that were of interest and then map out stops.  Emphasis was placed on short driving days between stops to allow for maximum exploration time in each location.

Campground Planning:

Once I had a basic idea of where we wanted to spend our time, I started planning where we would be camping.  I interspersed state park type campgrounds that offer less amenities but ample space with the full-service campgrounds that offer more amenities but tend to offer less space, creating a nice balance of experiences.

My go-to sites for state park type campgrounds is Reserve America and Recreation.gov.  For full-service campgrounds, I always stop at KOA and TripAdvisor first.  Before I make any final decisions, I read reviews.  Campground reviews are a little harder to find than hotels but I like to try RV Park Reviews first.  I also will check out Yelp and TripAdvisor as sometimes reviews can be located there.

Sites & Attractions Planning

A year ago I started a file of articles, brochures, blog posts, etc. regarding North Carolina attractions so I had plenty of destination ideas and places I wanted to eat.  I used this information to help me plan how many days we would need at each camping location.  TripAdvisor is always my go-to with site and attraction planning.

Reviews:

Each stop of our journey will have its own post where I will share the details of the campgrounds, sites and attractions we visited (and more importantly, what we missed), and even some amazing places we had a meal. If you ever thought about heading to North Carolina this is your cheat sheet for planning your own adventure.  For those who haven’t thought about North Carolina as a destination, read along…. this may just change your mind!
