Located about 45-minutes from Huntsville, AL, this is a "must" if you are in the Northern Alabama area. Cathedral Caverns holds a few world records including one for its massive natural entrance. Take a tour of this immense cave and view "Goliath," a massive column that also holds a worlds record. Visit the beautiful stalagmite forest and the "Frozen Waterfall" formation. Paved trail is great for strollers or wheelchairs. Golf-cart rides are available for those in need.
This campground is limited to only 13 electric/water sites only. Contact park for any size restrictions or current conditions.

Located in downtown Birmingham, this is truly a "must do" while in town. Golden Flake's factory tour offers participates to see how potato chips and other snack products are made. The tour explains the process from farm-fresh potatoes all the way through to the packaging of the products. Many product samples are given along the way which keeps kids interested. The best part is the tour is free!!
Reservations must be made in advance and there is a minimum age of 5-years-old. There are quite a few Tour Rules so make sure to check them out before you make a reservation.

Harmony Park is a federally licensed nature preserve of free-ranging exotic and endangered animals. Visitors drive remain in their cars and drive along a 2-mile route to view and feed animals such as deer, antelopes, a zebra, a giraffe, bison, llamas, and ostriches. Don't forget to purchase a bucket (or two) of food when you pay your admission! Once done with your drive, park to view tortoises, kangaroos and the Reptile House.

With four floors of hands-on exhibits, there is always something fun to do, no matter what age. For the 5 and under crowd, McWane's offers Just Mice Size and Itty Bitty Magic City. For older kids, the skies the limit. Both traveling and permanent exhibits delight kids of all ages. There is also an IMAX Theater, a food court and an incredible retail store called f. Really Cool Stuff.

Oak Mountain State Park is almost 10,000 acres and is Alabama's largest state park and offers a wide variety of great outdoor activities. This State Park is only 15 miles south of Birmingham making it a great place to camp and enjoy the sights of Birmingham.
Oak Mountain State Park Campground is open year-round and offer RV sites with water, electric and sewer hook-ups. Each site has a picnic table and fire ring. There are also tent sites available. Campground has a dump station, restrooms, laundry facilities, and showers. Wi-Fi is reportedly available but we were unable to connect during our visit. Pets are allowed.

There are 10 fully-furnished cabins for rent within Oak Mountain State Park. All cabins are two bedrooms with a maximum capacity of 6 persons. There is a fully-equipped kitchenette, central air and heat, flat-screen TV and bathroom. Each cabin has its own grill and picnic table. Two units are pet-friendly and one is handicapped-accessible. Lake Tranquility is designated for cabins guests only and offer opportunity for fishing. There is free use of canoes and boats for cabin guests as well. Cabin Reservations 205-620-2524

General admission to the U.S. Space & Rocket Center includes access to historic Shuttle Park, Rocket Park and all indoor exhibit areas such as the main museum atrium and the Davidson Center for Space Exploration. Also included are daily guided tours of the Saturn V Hall, featured traveling exhibitions, hands-on demonstrations and presentations, museum simulators and a behind-the-scenes tour of Space Camp.

One Tranquility Base, Huntsville, AL
Vulcan Park is home to the statue of Vulcan, Roman god of fire and forge. Perched high above Birmingham, he watches over the city. It is free to walk around the park but there is a charge to visit the Museum and the Observation Tower. Check the website for current pricing.
The park is stroller-friendly and has picnic tables available that have an incredible view of the city.
